Due to not having a Spring Sale, we have roughly twice the amount of books as last time (October). All inventory from last sale was donated to a nonprofit so there is no holdover. A random "quarter day" (everything is 25 cents) for ONE DAY only will be introduced in the middle to encourage turnover. That would be communicated through our social media and email list. This biannual sale is one of the largest and best-organized book sales on the East Coast!
Our 4,000 square foot dedicated shopping area is filled with books displayed on shelves, like a bookstore, not in boxes on tables.
For each sale, there are over 30,000 books on display. And, just like a bookstore, the books are organized into fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi/horror/fantasy, teen literature, children's, coffee table, vintage, and audiobook sections. The fiction, teen literature, and sci-fi/horror/fantasy sections are alphabetized by author. The non-fiction section is categorized by subject.
In addition to hardback and paperback books, sale items include magazines, DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, puzzles, games, sheet music, and memorabilia.
- The DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, and sheet music are also organized into categories.
With over 40,000 total items for sale spread across all three floors of the library, there's something for everyone!
Our selection is completely refreshed after every sale.
Signs throughout the library will guide you to the correct floor, and our friendly volunteers are always available to help.
Cash, check, and some electronic payments (credit cards, PayPal, and Venmo) accepted. Minimum of $10 purchase for electronic payments.
To alleviate crowding during the busiest hours of the sale, and to provide a safe and pleasant experience for all our shoppers, please be mindful of the following guidelines:
- No wheeled vehicles permitted other than occupied strollers (highly suggested to wait until after noon on Saturday), wheelchairs, or book sale-owned bins and carts
- No large bags or boxes will be permitted in the aisles and no bags, boxes, or books on the floor
- Please pay for items on the floor on which they are purchased
On Saturday, there is a designated holding area for large bags and boxes. During the sale, there are shelves in the shopping area to store selected items that can no longer be carried by hand. Please note that these areas are for items selected for purchase, not sorting areas. ITEMS TAKEN TO THE HOLDING AREAS ARE CONSIDERED PURCHASED AND YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THEM.

PRE-VIEW SALE: Thursday (October 22) from 12 noon - 3 pm
- $30 per person, paid via Paypal
- Please use folfairfaxcity@gmail.com as payee
- Prepaid admission ONLY
  - Entry registration will be honored in order of time as posted on email response acknowledging payment & entry number
  - $30 payment through PayPal; no fee charged if you use cash, PayPal balance or AMEX as payment method
- Except for literature, all fiction (i.e., hardback, large softback, small paperback, and sci-fi/fantasy) will be excluded from the pre-view sale
- Check-in and entrance to the Pre-View Sale will be from the patio.
OPEN SALE: Friday (October 23) and Saturday (October 24) from 10 am - 3 pm
- Children's books will be on sale on the on-going sale bookshelves inside the library
BAG SALE: Sunday (October 25) from 10 am - 3 pm; $8.00 per grocery bag
- One bag per person will be available from sale staff while supply lasts; or bring your own grocery-size bags.
- Children's books will not be included in the bag sale
Book purchase payments by cash, check or credit card ($10 minimum)

What can we say that hasn’t been said? We’ve got books.You’ve got needs. Let’s do this! Shop our Big Fall Book Sale for gently used books in all genres. Prices are low and quality is high. We restock every day so you get multiple chances to hunt for that one book in the series you just haven’t found yet! (Still can’t find it? Feel free to ask a volunteer or your fellow shoppers while you’re browsing. Book lovers have to stick together.) (Don’t feel like talking? No problem. Book lovers also know when to be quiet and give another reader some space.)

During our sale, we close down much of our online store and bring the inventory to the sale, at a discounted rate.
We reserve the right to limit quantities
To avoid backlogs and confusion, we reserve the right to require buyers of large quantities to periodically pay for items and remove them from the building.
A BOOK OFF THE TABLE IS CONSIDERED SOLD. Be sure of your selections. You may not remove a pile of books to another area of the sale to 'review' before deciding which ones you wlll buy.
NO carts, strollers, or wagons may be used in the Main Room.
Scanners (handheld, finger held, cyborg eyes, and any other price checking devices) are not permitted in some sections, including CDs, DVDs, and Charly's Corner.
